Each time a page on your site doesn't load, an error message shall be shown to the visitor. Because there are different errors, there are different pages which will show up, but what is typical for all of them is that they are generic and most likely shall have practically nothing that is similar to the design of your site, which can be frustrating for any visitor. This is the main reason why website hosting service providers have introduced a feature referred to as Custom Error Pages. For a variety of different errors, website visitors will see your unique content, which may be informative or witty, in accordance with your choice, and which shall match the overall design and style of your website, so the pages won't look like they aren't part of your site at all. You could use this option for a variety of errors - 400 (Bad request), 401 (Unauthorized), 403 (Forbidden) and 404 (File not Found).

Custom Error Pages in Shared Hosting

You will be able to set up custom made error pages for all of your domains or subdomains. The feature is supported by all shared hosting plans that we offer, so when you log in to your Hepsia CP and check out the Hosted Domains section, you can click on the Edit button for a domain/subdomain and in the pop-up which will be displayed, you could pick the type of error page that should appear - a default one from our system, a conventional Apache web server page or a custom one. For the latter alternative, you must assign the URL to the page, so if you use personalized pages, you should upload the files in your hosting account first. An alternative way is to use an .htaccess file positioned in the domain or subdomain folder with a line for each error type. The exact syntax can be found in our Knowledge Base, so you can use this function even if you don't have any previous experience.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Hosting

All Linux semi-dedicated hosting that we supply support personalized error pages and it will not take more than a few mouse clicks in your Hepsia website hosting Control Panel to use this functionality. The option is available in the Hosted Domains section of your Control Panel in which you'll have to input the links to the custom-made files using very simple drop-down menus and a user-friendly interface. Of course, you must upload them to your account before that. If you don't need to use this function at some point, you will be able to disable it just as quickly and pick an Apache server page or a default page from our system to be viewable if your visitors encounter an error. If you'd prefer, you may also use an .htaccess file to enable the personalized error pages. The file should have a specific line of code and a link for every error type and you may find an example of the entire content for all four error types in our Help section.
